Active Membership
(1) Any individual who has successfully completed the Certified Legal Assistant (CLA) examination of The National Association of Legal Assistants;
(2) Any individual who has graduated from an ABA approved program of study for legal assistants;
(3) Any individual who has graduated from a course of study for legal assistants which is institutionally accredited, but not ABA approved, and which requires not less than the equivalent of sixty (60) semester hours of classroom study;
(4) Any individual who has graduated from a course of study for legal assistants other than those set forth in (2) and (3) above, and not less than six months of legal-related experience as a legal assistant, under the supervision of a licensed attorney, which attorney shall attest that such person is qualified as a legal assistant;
(5) Any individual who has received a baccalaureate degree in any field, and not less than six months of legal-related experience as a legal assistant, under the supervision of a licensed attorney, which attorney will attest that such person is qualified as a legal assistant;
(6) Any individual who has a minimum of three years of legal-related experience, under the supervision of a licensed attorney, including at least six months of in-house training as a legal assistant, which attorney shall attest that such person is qualified as a legal assistant.
(7) Any individual who has a minimum of two years of in-house training as a legal assistant under the supervision of a licensed attorney, which attorney shall attest that such person is qualified as a legal assistant;
Student Membership
(1) Any individual who is a student, in good standing in any university, college, junior college, or other institutionally accredited or ABA approved school pursuing a course of study as a legal assistant. Associate Membership (1) Any member of a bar association endorsing the legal assistant concept or involved in the promotion of the legal assistant profession;
(2) Any member of the educational field endorsing the legal assistant concept or involved in the promotion of the legal assistant profession;
(3) Those persons directly involved in the supervision of legal assistants;
(4) Any individual, law firm, corporation, and/or legal assistant educational program representatives who endorse the legal assistant concept or are actively involved in the promotion of the legal assistant profession.
